Van-Again

Добавлен 14 фев 2008
I started Van-Again a mechanic shop and parts store over 14 years ago because of my love for the VW Vanagon and Bus. I try to boil things down to their basic essentials and I enjoy teaching others things that I had to learn the hard way.
My first 3d printed Vanagon part I designed myself!

Vanagon or westy? Is that metal or plastic
It can work on either. It is rubber
Those printers are so cool. What is the part for?
You supposed to guess
When you drive a lot of backroads and slow speeds you have to count engine hours, not distance for your maintenance intervals.
Cover for the seat belt buckle?
Yes!
@@VanAgain lol mannnn this thing has been worrying me lol!!! I'm so glad 😊. That's going to be a good seller! Thanks for all you do keeping these beauties on the road!
4patriots solar generators are over priced and junk. Save your money and get more power better built and cheaper!
excellent mate... !!!!! thank U for rec it = respect !!!!
My TPS sensor on low end - plastic cam worn, not clicking switch. Also, switch at max adjustment. Temporary fix? Carefully bend switch tab to compensate. Will get ya by until you order new adjusting plate. (Low idle when engine cold now works).
MAN! The screwdriver method is genius! Thank you sir!
It's for an emergency only
Steering column cover
Nope. I may do them in the future but I would need a bigger printer.
Thanks for your explanation of the wiring. I have a 1980 European model with a 1600 CT engine that is carbureted. Does the Bentley manual cover that model?
No. You want to find the blue Haynes manual. That should cover the European models.
Gas pedal?
Nope, but good guess
@@VanAgain lol Aw Man!!!
Great video - thank you. I'm sitting here with a full tank and 3/4 on the meter and I bet there are some hoses in mine that looked like yours! I don't smell any gas but I'm going to open this can of worms next, and your video will prove to be a huge time saver. Sorry Part 2 got eaten by your phone :(
I was curious to see the results. I'm modeling a roof vent for my RV to be used with computer coolers and couldn't find anyone who did this.
The vent we did is more like a ventilation vent you would use for your interior AC in a car.
Hi Ken! Great that you’re offering 3D printing services! What size is your printer? How soon will you be acquiring the 3d scanner? Love it!! Dean Bradenton, Fl
It is the Creality K1 Max. It is 300x300mm. The scanner should be here tomorrow.
I’m trying by my self with no results to buy 2 pairs of front signal indicators ( the euro spec ones) OEM not the aftermarket ones.😢
I have not seen OEM ones as a new part in probably 8 years or more.
Looks like a clutch alignment tool
Good morning, Ken from Flagstaff, Arizona.
can anyone tell me how much the 60 watt solar panel is and can it be a different brand panel?
This was SO helpful! Looking for a good option CLOSE to SeaWorld, and your last statement sold me. 5 minutes is perfect! When you say "roaches" are you referring to the the huge ones or the small ones?
We never saw any bug infestations while we were there. You are in Florida so you will see bugs and all of these hotels have to take measures to keep them under control. It is just a factor of taking your vacation in a former swamp.
@@VanAgain Thanks SO MUCH for clarifying! Glad it's just what you'd normally see and not anything outrageous. Seems perfect for SeaWorld.
I need one of those engine cover locks on your table. lol. Doing the instrument foil is on my list. My tach is flakey, and I have a feeling this will make less so.
Very helpful, Ken! Your videos are the best, many thanks.
Any link to buy them?

Could you make a video on how to install the ignition coil?
Thanks - using your video as a rough guide, I managed to combine two non-functioning motors into one that worked. The pillow-shaped lump in the brush holder on the first one would not pass electrons. Don't know what it's supposed to do, but I know what it doesn't do. Replaced it with the entire brush holder from another motor with a seized upper bearing and it works. Now, if only the PO hadn't installed an earlier model passenger door, without mount points for the late-model regulator and motor, this would be just a hard job, not a miserable one.
Glad to help
Could you make a video explaining the fuse box on the 1986 vanagon
Ok
New owner and just changed my belts for the first time, and this video, a 13mm and a pry bar, were all I needed to do the job. I sure do appreciate the video and subscribed to the channel today! Thanks a lot for the help. 😊
Now if you could explain how the rear wiper works...
At the 3:50 minute mark what did you use to get those 2 screws out?
It is a set of Torx drive tools that everyone who is working on a modern VW (90s and newer) should have in their tool chest. Thank you for your in-put on the sidekick. And your comment about your socks made me think about the country song about a common man in common van. By John Conlee. Then as I was making this note There is a nother song No place I would rather be then right here with my red neck White Socks and Blue ribin beer.
Thank u so much you helped me a lot
You are welcome
Thank you so much for this video got my weekend plans now
Please help me find my Crankshaft Sensor same model. thanks
The fuel injection system doesn't use one.
Cam lock
hmm. I don't think anyone on RUclips actually knows where the buzzer is. There's no way I'm taking the speedo out. Unlesss the buzzer's in there... who knows?...
Yes it is behind the speedometer. You have to remove it to access it. I know.
Do you have an aar to sell
Yes. They are on our website.
How long did it take for your stuff to get shipped with AFE? I feel like I've been waiting forever
It was kind of a miracle. From the USA to pickup it was a month or a little less I believe.
(aka Jackbox) Its using the right filament, particularly in hot locations. I've made no end of parts for vintage arcade machines on my printer including these cams. The prototypes were in PLA but PETG better for longevity: ruclips.net/video/0XHlUmR8Nxo/видео.html
Right now I am making prototypes so I am using hyper PLA which allows fast prints. If I decide to make parts for sale I will use a different filament
Good morning, Ken. Joe from Flagstaff Arizona. Hope everything's going well.
Struggling with a cold at the moment, but good besides that.
I may be a vanagon addict, but I'm really here for Ken's adlib baby talk. He's the best.
Glad you enjoy my goofiness
I would say the biggest downside of having a professional conversion done like this is the cost even if diesel fuel was the same price or a little bit cheaper and only an extra maybe 10 or 15 miles to the gallon you're going to have to drive a couple laps around the world to actually recoup your money. I don't see the return on investment in dollars ever paying off. Out of curiosity what was the cost of that conversion
I don't know for sure but I would guess between $12-15k. And because they had a water contamination problem in the fuel tank, about a year later the engine grenaded.
Ken, a couple of years ago I watched a metal 3D printer that made aluminium parts. Blew my mind that did.
It is almost magic!
Dip shit
Thanks. This afternoon I spent (wasted) an hour trying to work out how this thing came apart.
also used on type 1 beetles with fuel injection.
Yup
Wow, that looked tough. Can the airbox and intake runners be assembled off the engine? Are the mounting bolts accessible with it assembled? A better design would be v-bands and bellows.
I don't think doing it off the engine would be easier. Also getting to the mounting bolts for the plenum would be more difficult to get to with the runners installed.
@@VanAgain Would heating the rubber help? Maybe boiling in water for a bit?
Thanks for posting this video series. I think I'm going to be rebuilding my GoWesty 2.5L in the next year. I'll purchase any parts I need/can from your site. Cheers.
Does anyone think one of these could be used with hose reduced down (to 1/4”? or whatever the inside diameter is) as a brake system bleeder ?). Not sure if the reservoir would handle the pressure necessary ? Of course if you got brake fluid inside the gauge it’d not be good… . But it sure would be cool to be able to - you know , with that whatsit at the ‘T’ where the lines split? I’ve fought air in my lines and then finally paid a foreign auto repair to do it and I didn’t notice a bit of difference in the pedal.
I ordered one and it’s on its way 👍🏼. I’m a tad disappointed to read here that you recommend not using with coolant in the system. DUh , nevermind , of course I can just save my coolant in a super clean container. Have a good weekend.
You can use it with coolant in the system but it will make a huge mess. I don't recommend it.
@@VanAgain Of course it’d make a huge mess ! 🙄 Thanks again !
